Why did so many buyers move to North Carolina in 2015?
North Carolina consistently ranks very high in the annual United Van Lines Movers Study and in this article we share the reasons why so many buyers moved to NC in 2015.
Guess what? The population continues to move away from the cold of the northeastern states to warmer areas and a popular destination is the southeastern coastal states of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida as you can see on this map. Almost every time we speak to someone from the Northeast, we hear comments like “I can’t wait to get away from this brutal cold weather” or “I am done with shoveling snow” and always “What’s your weather like in NC today?”. The weather is not the main reason people are moving but it is certainly something they love.
United Van Lines states these top reasons for moving to the South:
- Transfer / New Job
- Retirement
- Proximity to Family
North Carolina Ranks High in the 2015 Movers Study!
So what makes NC consistently rank high in the Migration/Movers Study year after year and ranked # 5 in 2015? According to the survey the reasons for the inbound moves were retirement, health, and being close to family. The percentages for NC were 59% inbound and 41% outbound which is why NC ranks high in the study. New York and New Jersey rank with the highest moving deficit which makes them the top or worst outbound states.
North Carolina Offers So Many Things To Do
NC offers mountains for hiking and skiing, coastal living by the beach, fresh water lakes, quality universities, manufacturing industry, large military bases, farming, fishing, technology, and so much more. If you are considering a move to NC or already live here, I recommend getting a subscription to “Our State” magazine as it is such as great resource for discovering everything to do, see, and taste in our beautiful state.
Mortgage Products for North Carolina Buyers
Most of NC areas are USDA eligible which allows for first time or move up buyers to purchase with 100% financing. Vacation home buyers are able to use conventional loan financing to buy the chalet in the mountains, a house on the lake or river, and of course the beach house. With so many military bases in NC, VA home loans are very popular mortgage type and it allows service members and veterans to purchase with no money down or luxury homes with very little down and no monthly PMI.
